The Habitat model of building homes fills this critical need, by creating affordable housing right now, where none exists today.
Habitat improves lives
Housing insecurity touches nearly half of adults at some point in their working lives. In order to secure housing, the majority of Americans much make huge tradeoffs in order to afford a place to live in our community. These tradeoffs include taking second, and even third jobs, going without healthcare and healthy food, and spending less time with their children because they must work longer and longer hours. The homes Habitat builds for our partner families provide a path out of this daily cycle of losing ground and losing hope. By restoring a system of affordable mortgages for safe, decent, affordable housing, working Whatcom County families are able to afford more of the necessities of a decent life. Most important of all, they’re able to spend more time together as families.
Habitat creates a lasting outcome
