Get ready for our annual Build Community Day! This year we’ll be centering our activity around Habitat’s flagship Telegraph Townhomes Project (1050 Telegraph Road, Bellingham) and the surrounding King Mountain neighborhood.
Build Community Day brings people together to build and mend homes and hearts. Inspired and funded by the Whatcom Community Foundation’s Project Neighborly Program, Build Community Day helps connect volunteers and their neighbors in Whatcom County.
This year’s event, on Saturday, October 19, will be an opportunity for volunteers (volunteer here) from a wide range of backgrounds and beliefs to work together, whether picking up hammers or shovels or gardening tools, to make a difference in this wonderful place we call home. (To sign up to be a volunteer, please send email to our Volunteer Services Coordinator, Shelly Comstock, at volunteer@hfhwhatcom.org, or call 360.715.9170, ext. 1016).
All volunteers and attendees are invited to join us for lunch midday and to hear from some of the very special guest speakers. We’ve invited candidates for Mayor of Bellingham and Whatcom County Executive to discuss how, if elected, their administrations will partner with organizations like Habitat to help solve the housing crisis in Whatcom County. We look forward to hearing about and discussing some creative and sustainable housing ideas. There will be time for Q&A, so bring your questions.
Come for a few hours or come for the whole day. Our first shift starts at 8:30 a.m. The second shift starts at 1:30 p.m. You’ll find us at 1050 Telegraph Road. (If you drive or carpool, please park in the Unity Spiritual Center’s parking lot across the street from the Telegraph project.)
Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County thanks all of our generous sponsors for Build Community Day 2019: the Whatcom Community Foundation, Umpqua Bank, Kulshan Community Land Trust, the Telegraph Townhome Project, LLC, and the Unity Spritual Center.
