Swinging a Hammer or Office Work,
We Need Volunteers of Every Skill and Interest

YOU CAN HELP!

Habitat for Humanity uses folks with all kinds of skills to meet the housing needs of our local community. Many people are surprised to learn that there are more opportunities for serving Habitat than just swinging a hammer or installing a furnace.

INDIVIDUAL INVOLVEMENT

One at a time: Each Habitat house is touched by hundreds of volunteers performing thousands of hours of work: on site, raising money, managing the affiliate, etc. We need people of every skill and interest and here are the key areas where we could use the contribution of your skills:

BUSINESS INVOLVEMENT

Most businesses like to give back to the community that supports it, and Habitat for Humanity is a great way to do just that in a visible, concrete way. If you are a dealer in building materials or equipment, we would love to talk with you about joining our team of donors. But even if you don't work in the housing sector, there are still many different ways to help out; Banks love to sponsor painting or landscaping parties to foster team cohesion and morale. Other groups of co-workers take on a project, submit a corporate grant proposal and provide the labor to complete the project.  We can help you get creative.  Call us.

Take a look at our donor list. In appreciation for your services and commitment to us, we've started to link your name to your company website.

PARTNERS FOR CHRIST

Are you a pastor, elder, or small group leader looking for opportunities to get your members actively involved in ministry? Perhaps your members aren't interested in building? There are other ways to help. As a Christian-based organization, Habitat for Humanity seeks to develop vital relationships with the local church. Together, we can better employ biblical principles to reach the needy among us. Here are some of the ways to support Habitat’s work:

PRAY  – Without the continuing prayers of millions of people, Habitat's work could not continue.

DONATE  – One pastor said that when people give to projects like Habitat for Humanity, they are giving out of a different pocket.  They still support their local congregations, but they respond to God’s call to do more.  Options include:

  • Make regular donations to your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate or take up special Habitat for Humanity offerings.
  • Provide in-kind goods and services (for example, a plumber in the congregation might volunteer to do the plumbing work on a Habitat house.)
  • Raise funds to build all or part of a house.  One or several congregations could sponsor a house  to raise the money and build a house together, submitting a family from your church for consideration in our Family Selection process.
  • Tithe – set aside one-tenth of the money you raise for local Habitat projects.  The tithe funds are then used to build Habitat houses in other countries, where construction costs are often much lower.  This helps us build houses and hope with families in need of decent shelter.

VOLUNTEER – You can volunteer regularly to help your local affiliate or this church could choose to work on specific projects:

  • Organize volunteers for a part of a house or a bite-sized project that this congregation funds and participates in.
  • Join volunteer teams around the world for Jimmy Carter Work Projects, disaster relief, joining a group to work for our sister Affiliate in San Ramon, Costa Rica or other celebrations like Building on Faith week in September.
  • Organize a Global Village team to build houses and hope in another country or community.
  • Serve on one of our vital committees.  Individuals are always needed to help with acquiring land, find and select qualified homeowner applicants, assisting new family partners, recruiting church support and more.
  • Serve on the Board of Directors.  We often need help obtaining the leadership from several additional people, well networked in the community, who would be willing to join the board for a three year term.
